10,000 steps Challenge

The JourneyOn 10 - last year our group of willing volunteers became walking ambassadors for the city. Their challenge was to walk ten thousand steps a day for ten weeks. Read more about the challenge here. To celebrate our Year of Walking and Cycling we've invited our volunteers to write another blog about how they've got on - one year on.  Watch this space for more details.

You can start your own personal 10,000 steps challenge and claim a free pedometer by emailing your name and address and reason for taking up your challenge to journeyon@brighton-hove.gov.uk We will send you a walking kit which includes a pedometer and log so you can keep a record of your daily step count!

A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step
So, the final week has come. And fittingly, it has been one of my best weeks yet. Wednesday was my best day, both for walking, and because I had the day off work! I met a friend to walk into town, where we met another friend ...» read more

Final week

Final week, and I was determined to up my average and go out on a high note. My pedometer thought otherwise and went out in the middle of the week. I persuaded it to recover but it played up for the rest of the time so I have had to go on walks where I know the step count which was a bit ...» read more

At last, I’ve walked, wandered, jogged, puffed and panted and even skipped my way to the end of the 10,000 Step Challenge.
To be honest, at the beginning, I felt very resistant. Although I volunteered to take part, as soon as I was picked to be one of the ten, I felt ...» read more

Festival Feet

The sunshine this week was a welcome boost to the last week of this journey that I embarked on 10 weeks ago, and even more so as I was heading off to the Larmer Tree Festival in Dorset to volunteer for the children's workshops and make yet more carnival outfits! I've become a bit addicted to ...» read more

My tenth and final blog...

I'm afraid nothing that interesting has happened this week; I've just been working more and running home from the Marina more often. However, the past few days I haven't run home because I think my foot has been subject to too much pounding on the concrete, so I'm taking it ...» read more

Lost for Words!!!!

It's true. I sit here 2 fingers poised and I don't know what to say! I know this will come as a shock to anyone who knows me but I'm a bit overwhelmed at how I feel about all of this coming to an end. The Good Things About Being Part Of This Challenge:

1. My typing speed has ...» read more

Suprised

Spent the last four days of the challenge at The Larmer Tree Festival on the Dorset/Wiltshire border. We volunteer every year and this time around I worked as Stage Crew on the main stage. This involved meeting and greeting the bands and helping them set up on stage. I clocked up an average of ...» read more

The proof of the pudding....

The aim of this challenge; 10 people finding more ways to fit walking into their daily lives to get fit, save money and reduce carbon emissions. Personally (and some might say selfishly), at the start of this challenge I focussed on the first two of these aims to motivate me, requiring somewhat ...» read more
