On your doorstep 2009

Mark had a visit from Amber this summer. In their conversation she discovered that he had just moved into Hove. He was quite happy to have so much positive information offered to him about the wealth of transport options available within the city. After her visit, and a conversation with his partner, he found himself with a birthday present of a brand new bicycle. Somehow this steam-rolled into a new bike for his wife and, then his daughter, and even her boyfriend. Wow!
His favourite form of transport around Brighton & Hove is his new bicycle, but he owns a car, loves to walk with his wife and 2 dogs, and uses the train on a regular basis. He also picked up a set of free LED bike lights. Happy travelling, Mark!
Carmel''s favourite way to get around Brighton & Hove is on foot. Her husband cycles to work everyday. She was visited by Sonya on her doorstep and received one of our tailor-made packages where her favourite item was Brighton & Hove Buses route timetable. She also visited the Engineerium to pick up a set of bike lights after her conversation with Sonya. She was the first to do so.

Nicolas loves to cycle around Brighton & Hove. He encourages friends and neighbours to do the same. Ollie handed over some lights to the two-wheeled enthusiast.

Rob was a happy man when Amy handed over some lights and a Hi-Viz rucksack cover. He was delighted to have Neena turn up on his doorstep, who he found to be helpful and enthusiastic. He has a very balanced approached to transport, likes to cycle, walk, and drive, according to the travel diary he filled out for us. He thinks car driver''s need to be more aware of cyclists'' vulnerability while, equally important, cyclists need to follow the rules of the road.

Pat helped Jill, who is looking to keep her bike safe with one of our high quality coil locks.
Helen and her two children collected their lock from Alex who had also visited them on their doorstep.

Alex gives a big thumbs up for his brand new LED bike lights. We like the excited ones! (Just check out Sonya''s smile.)

Chandra chose a hi-viz rucksack cover. That will come in handy during the darker winter months. And it does seem to have brightened her day!

Neena was happy to hand Colin over a lock. He reports to us that she was very courteous and polite and was very competent and confident at her job. Thanks for the good feedback, Colin. Way to go Neena!

It was the same day. We don''t know who forgot to match your name to your photo... but we won''t point any fingers! Are you using your lock? Is it keeping your bike safe? Email in and let us know... travel.planning@brighton-hove.gov.uk

Tommy couldn''t believe his luck! A top quality lock in exchange for a conversation on his doorstep, his thoughts on travel within our city, and a 7-day travel diary submitted to our team. We think it''s great that residents want to engage with us.

Another answer to a doorstep mystery. We can now call you Michael! Helen, thanks for emailing in and letting us know you spotted your husband. Hope the lights shine for you.
Amy and Oliver made up a special handshake for the exchange of the lock. He remembered being visited by our travel advisor, Ollie, as he said he was very helpful, had something to say about our very interesting project, and, of course, shared the same name.

Mystery Solved! Yay! Thanks for your email Freddie!!! We do hope you like your lock!

Denise picked up some cycle lights from Pat. We hope they come in useful for those dark evenings that are on their way.

Michael likes to bike! He was well chuffed to collect his D-Lock with a cable. He also gets around in his post van, by bus, and by car. We hope the lock works out for you.

We are D-lighted to help residents like yourself with some security for your bike. But we''re sorry, we don''t have your name matched up to your photo. Email in to us and let us know... travel.planning@brighton-hove.gov.uk

Alan collected a D-lock, a bell, and a reflective snap band from the Engineerium.

Andy was quite keen to collect a bike lock as he likes to use his bike along with other forms of transport within the city.

Kay was quite pleased with her lock. Ollie seemed quite pleased to hand it over.

Mike will find his new set of lights come in very handy in the coming winter months.

You collected your lock from us, but help us out... someone forgot to record your name with the photo. Email us travel.planning@brighton-hove.gov.uk
Pat handed over a high quality lock to Tim.

Sonya was happy to help Sophie with a set of lights.

Finally!!! We capture Chris in a photo... with Tom who was so enthusiastic about our project, he got his neighbour involved.

David has definitely increased the security for his bike with his new lock.

Sarah thanked Alex for her cycle incentive. Hopefully she is finding it useful.

Pat was glad to take the 7-day travel diary off Dawn. And she was glad to have a lock in return.
West Hove Juniors

Neena is pictured with a lucky girl from West Hove Juniors who won a set of bike lights and a bike bell after her family entered into a prize draw at a sustainable transport event in Hove Park this summer.

Personalised Travel Planning (PTP) in Brighton & Hove, a pioneering city-wide project now entering its fourth year, is engaging directly with thousands of residents over the summer months.
Travel Advisors for the project will be attempting to make contact with 15,000 households in North Brighton & Hove. The area this year includes parts of Hangleton, Westdene, Withdean, Hove Park, and Preston Park. The team of Travel Advisors, clearly identified by white polo shirts with the Brighton & Hove City Council logo and identification, hope to meet residents at their doorsteps and offer free information and advice regarding transport options within the city.
This year''s group of residents - similar to the previous years - will be offered the service to encourage more diverse and sustainable modes of travel within the city.

Feedback from people who have taken part so far indicates a range of benefits - most frequently, they report having saved money and improved their health and fitness.

Amber, who called at the door had a very pleasant manner and this encouraged us to give our time and to answer her questions. She was also very patient and informative about what was available to encourage us to use other forms of transport other than the car.
An 8 wheel household received locks and lights for their sustainable ethos. Yay!
